Reviews"Songwriting duo Pasek and Paul prove that musical theater is not nearly as lame as Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elton John would have you believe." -Time Out New York "The light pop and theatre-styled music is accompanied by well-crafted lyrics that tell interesting stories, score some solid laughs and touch some lovely emotions." -Broadwayworld.com "...these songs are worthy of Jason Robert Brown or Adam Guettel... even hints of Stephen Sondheim." -Times Union "Consistently buoyant and clever songs that keep from feeling preachy." -New York Times "...speaks directly to issues of youth, the way 'Rent' did a decade ago." -Times Union "A fresh and hilarious rock song cycle about the trials and tribulations of moving into adulthood and the search for love, commitment and meaning. Edges explores contemporary life from first jobs, to first loves, to first Facebook friends. It's funny, poignant, and deliciously honest with an irresistible contemporary rock/pop score by the winners of the 2007 Jonathan Larson Award for songwriting." -Playbill.com "It's a song cycle so charming, clever and sometimes raunchy, Edges has everyone singing its praises." -The Vancouver Sun "'Edges: A Song Cylce' is a musical that everyone in their 20s to 40s should put on their "Must See" list..." -The Republican American "...it's a show specifically designed for the next generation..." -Fairfield County Weekly "No really... see this show." -Times Union |

Information for Press
Indianapolis, IN Ð The Indianapolis premiere of Benj Pasek and Justin PaulÕs ÒEdgesÓ will be presented by Programs at Theatre on the SquareÕs mainstage January 2nd through 4th, 2009. ÒEdgesÓ is a song cycle revue that confronts the trials and tribulations of moving into adulthood and examines the search for love, commitment, and meaning.
ÒEdgesÓ authors Benj Pasek and Justin Paul were recipients of the coveted Jonathan Larson Award for songwriting while composing the show as undergraduates at The University of Michigan. The Jonathan Larson Grants were established in 1997 and have recognized and supported composers, lyricists, bookwriters, and organizations to honor emerging talent and infuse the musical theatre community with new work.
ÒEdges,Ó while unknown to many, has a large following with college-aged theatre enthusiasts as Pasek and PaulÕs many New York based concerts are available on YouTube, and a demo CD of their work has been circulating the web. Since ÒEdgesÓ was picked up by the major musical theatre licensing house Musical Theatre International, the show has enjoyed dozens of professional and amateur productions around the United States, Canada, and Europe.
ProgramsÕ production of ÒEdgesÓ will be directed by Matthew Cunningham (Indianapolis) and assistant directed by Amanda Salazar (Indianapolis). The show will be music directed by Nick Herman (New York City). Zach Rosing (Zionsville) will act as producer. The cast consists of Brian Benson, Sarah Hoffman, Mikayla Reed, and Dane Rogers, all of Indianapolis.
ProgramsÕ is Artistic Directed by Matthew Cunningham (25). Amanda Salazar (24) acts as Managing Director while Zach Rosing (26) produces. The young staff of 20-somethings are responsible for bringing the critically acclaimed Indiana premiere of ÒBare: The MusicalÓ to the Wheeler Arts Center last summer for All Alike Productions. After ÒBare,Ó eager to work on further projects together, Programs emerged with a mission of bringing lesser known but highly praised musicals and plays to Indianapolis audiences.
ÒWe are striving to produce the shows that we, as mid-twenty year old theatre lovers, have wanted to see put up but no one is jumping at the opportunity to do them,Ó explains Artistic Director Matthew Cunningham. ÒBecause we are the same age as the core of the audience that is eager to see our shows, we are really honing in on presenting the pieces in a way we would want to see them done, with a modern, edgy feel that theatre seems to be heading towards with shows like ÔSpring Awakening.ÕÓ
ProgramsÕ production of ÒEdgesÓ will be presented on Friday, January 2nd at 7:30pm, Saturday, January 3rd at 7:30pm, and Sunday, January 4th at 3pm and 7:30pm. The show will run at Theatre on the SquareÕs mainstage located at 627 Massachusetts Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46204. Tickets for the musical can be purchased for $15 at www.programsindy.com or by calling (317) 536-3892. More information about ÒEdgesÓ can be found at www.programsindy.com.
